Alaska ferry tour
WHAT: Visitors will have the chance to tour the MV Malaspina, part of the Alaska Marine Highway System that serves more than 30 communities there and Bellingham.
WHEN: Noon-5 p.m. Dec. 5.
WHERE: Bellingham Cruise Terminal, 355 Harris Ave., Bellingham.

THE TOUR: This is chance to see what it would be like to take the ferry to Alaska. Visitors will be able to see the observation lounges and theatre, get a look inside different types of cabins and check out the heated solarium where the heartier travelers camp out for the journey north. Those people who sign up at the purser’s desk will also be able to tour the bridge.
THE FERRY: The Malaspina was built in Seattle in 1963, and is 408 feet long. It has 53 four-berth cabins and 30 two-berth cabins. It has a capacity of 499 passengers and 88 vehicles.
PORT FESTIVAL: The tour is part of the Holiday Port Celebration that features a gingerbread contest and festive music Dec. 5-7. There also will be horse-drawn wagon rides and fire truck rides.
OF NOTE: Adults must have a photo ID to tour the ship. Lunch will be available for purchase in the ship’s café.
COST: The tours are free.
