The state Fish and Wildlife Commission is expected to vote on a statewide game management plan, hold a hearing on fishing rule proposals and discuss a Willapa Bay salmon management policy when it meets Friday (Dec. 12) and Saturday.
The game management plan will set strategies the Department of Fish and Wildlife will use from 2015-2021 to address key issues facing the state’s hunted wildlife. Some of the issues are hunter access, quality hunting opportunities, predator-prey management, wildlife-human conflicts and use of non-toxic ammunition.
The proposed changes to fishing rules will concentrate on freshwater fisheries in the Puget Sound and coastal regions.
The commission also is scheduled to discuss the search for a new department director, as Phil Anderson will be stepping down from that position at the end of the year.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day at the Capital Events Center, 6005 Tyee Drive SW, Tumwater.
