Participants in the third annual Tacoma History Hike on June 28 will have the chance to explore downtown Tacoma while collecting answers to historical trivia in a race against time.
The history hike will start at the Washington State History Museum and leads hikers to a series of checkpoints within a 1.5-mile radius.
Each checkpoint provides the answer to a question of Tacoma-related historical trivia. Participants try to collect as many answers as they can in the time allotted.
Then they return to the museum for awards, goody bags, music and free admission to the history museum.
“This History Hike is a fun and active way to engage the public with our great city and support the preservation of history at the same time,” Laura Berry, development director for the museum, said in a news release.
Participants can walk, run or bike the course. Hikers can sign up individually or in teams of up to five people.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register. The online registration deadline is June 25, but walk-up registration will be available the day of the event.
Proceeds from the walk will benefit the History Fund, which helps support the work of the Washington State Historical Society.
