For the sixth year in a row, the Gig Harbor Fly Shop is hosting a stop on the Fly Fishing Film Tour. This year’s showing will be March 5 at the Blue Mouse Theater in Tacoma.
Each year, the tour features never-seen footage from waterways worldwide. Each screening is a celebration of fly fishing in a party atmosphere, with audience giveaways and coupons.
As part of the Tacoma event will be a raffle, with the proceeds supporting the Wild Steelhead Coalition. At more than 150 shows in 2014, the tour helped raise $250,000 to be used by conservation groups.
Featured segments this year include fly fishing for taimen with R.A. Beattie; pursuing tarpon, bonefish and permit in Cuba; chasing steelhead on the Dean River in British Columbia with Peter Christensen; surfing and fly fishing for Atlantic salmon in Iceland with R.C. Cone; chasing carp across the United States with Beattie Outdoor Productions; and a film on the power of fly fishing helping a Vietnam War veteran through Project Healing Waters and Scott Thompson.
Never miss a local story.
Blake Merwin, owner of the fly shop, said the capacity of the Blue Mouse is not as large as the previous venue in Gig Harbor, so he encouraged people to buy tickets in advance.
Tickets are $15 in advance at the Gig Harbor Fly Shop until March 1, $18 online or at the door (if available). Tickets also are available at the film tour’s website at flyfilmtour.com.
The theater is at 2611 N. Proctor St., Tacoma. The doors will open at 6 p.m. for a social hour, with the films starting at 7 p.m.
People checking the tour website should note a showing set for March 11 in Gig Harbor is incorrect. Merwin said that was the original target date, but was changed to the March 5 event.
