‘Time for moving ahead to joy:’ Crowd gathers to remember Powell boys

One year after Josh Powell killed his sons Charlie and Braden, ages 7 and 5, and set fire to his Graham-area rental house, family and friends of the boys say it’s time for recovery and to salvage whatever good they can from the tragedy.

The road that winds through Puyallup’s Woodbine Cemetery was bumper to bumper Tuesday night, as people turned out into the cold to dedicate the graveyard’s new angel, and to remember angels of their own.

On Monday, a 10,000-pound statue was erected at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup on a hill overlooking the resting place of Charlie and Braden Powell. The boys, ages 7 and 5, were killed by their father, Josh Powell, earlier this year during a supervised visit at his rented home in the Graham area.

A 10,000-pound marble angel was installed today above the shared grave of Charlie and Braden Powell. The statue will be set at the top of the children’s hill of Puyallup's Woodbine Cemetery.

Two Seattle attorneys are preparing to file a claim for damages against the State of Washington on behalf of missing Utah mother Susan Cox Powell. The claim will accuse the state of negligence in the deaths of Powell’s sons, Charlie and Braden.

The state might have banned Josh Powell from having his two young sons at his Graham house if they had known Utah authorities considered him a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, according to a Department of Social and Health Services report released today.
