Tiger spotted near Riverside

Neighbors in the 4400 block of Gar Road East in Riverside told authorities Thursday afternoon they saw a large cat roaming through backyards. From the descriptions, authorities were on the prowl for a possible tiger.

Those who visited the Puyallup Farmers Market on Saturday got a unique opportunity to view 37 pieces of artwork in the Puyallup Activity Center done by senior citizens from across Washington state.

Enslow hopes his city can beat Puyallup in this year’s donation drive for the inaugural Stick it to Hunger Peanut Butter Drive. It pit the cities of Puyallup and Sumner in a competition to out beat the other in the number of jars collected. The cities of Puyallup and Sumner found themselves in a sticky competition — one that included peanut butter. From April 30 through May 11, the cities challenged each other to collect the most peanut butter to be distributed to each city’s respective food bank.

Terry Nelson went to Wildwood Park in Puyallup last fall to walk his two yellow labs, Jazz and Buck. He came home owing the city $513 per dog.

Despite cooler temperatures and rain, the Puyallup Fairgrounds was alive and well on opening day of the Spring Fair. Just shy of 2 p.m. last Thursday, crowds of eager fairgoers lined Meridian Street at both the gold and blue gates. Friday was more of the same, but Saturday and Sunday saw sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s.

Communities in Schools of Puyallup was generously supported last week when hundreds of education advocates attended the organization’s seventh annual “Friendraiser” Benefit Breakfast and Auction. More than $15,000 in donations was raised on Wednesday.
