Renton – For the first time this season, the Seattle Seahawks will start the entire offensive line that was projected to begin the season at the end of training camp.
Seahawks coach Jim Mora said Sean Locklear will start at left tackle against Arizona on Sunday. Out since the Sept. 20 game against San Francisco with a high ankle sprain, Locklear shared first-unit snaps with Damion McIntosh during practice this week.
Mora said he wanted to see Locklear make it through practice showing no ill effects from the injury and return the next day without experiencing any soreness. Mora said Locklear alleviated those concerns this week.
“He had a good week,” Mora said.
Mora said he chose to start Locklear over McIntosh, who has been solid in two starts for Seattle, because of Locklear’s experience with the team.
“He’s been this system longer than Damion,” Mora said. “He went through all the offseason with us and training camp, so there’s a little more familiarity.
“Of course, he hasn’t played in a while, so there’s something there. But he and Rob Sims have played next to each other quite a bit, so once again, just continuity and repetitions together – that will help us.”
The Seahawks can use all the experience they can get against an explosive Arizona defensive front – one that wreaked havoc against the Seahawks a month ago in Seattle, sacking quarterback Matt Hasselbeck five times and forcing two turnovers against an inexperienced left side of the line that included fourth-stringer Kyle Williams at left tackle and third-stringer Steve Vallos at left guard.
Mora is hopeful that more experience up front can help prevent the Seahawks from falling behind early, as they did when they trailed 17-0 against Arizona earlier this season.
“We were down 14-0 before our offense even took the field,” he said. “So when you’re playing with guys who haven’t played a lot and you’re behind against a good defense like that, it’s really difficult. So we’ve got to avoid that this time.”
Housh: No regrets, so far
Asked about how he feels about watching his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals, playing well and having a 6-2 record right now, Seahawks wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he has no regrets about his decision to sign with Seattle during the offseason – at least for now.
Houshmandzadeh also had an opportunity to sign with Minnesota, but he accepted a five-year, $40 million deal to play in Seattle. The Vikings, whom Seattle will face next week, are 7-1 and leading the NFC North right now.
“I don’t regret anything right now, because it’s too early to say I regret anything,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Obviously, I’m human just like anybody else is human. I’ve thought about it. I like football, so I follow the NFL.
“And I wouldn’t say that I follow the Bengals, but I am aware of what’s going on, and I’m human just like anybody else. So I’m looking at it like ‘Ahh, would you believe it?’ But it is what it is.”
Extra points
Defensive end Patrick Kerney, who has 6.5 sacks in four games against Arizona while with Seattle, says the key to getting pressure on Kurt Warner is to stop the run and force the Cardinals to throw the ball. “You’ve got to get a team passing when they have to, not when they want to,” Kerney said. “And the better the quarterback and the better the receivers, the more emphasis you have to put on that. So, as I always say, you’ve got to stop the run first.” ... Locklear (ankle), Hasselbeck (shoulder), Ken Lucas (neck) and Chris Spencer (thumb) were full participants in Friday’s practice. Mora said Josh Wilson will start at cornerback instead of Lucas, but Lucas will be available to play.
