Who’s the farmer: Lyn Apodaca will sell a wide range of produce at the Key Peninsula Farmers Market, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of O’Callahan’s Pub & Grill, 15610 92nd St. KPN in Lakebay.

What does the farmer grow? “Beets, carrots, radish, summer and winter squash, tomato, corn, hot and sweet peppers, turnip, scallion, leek, potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, lettuce, greens, beans, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, swiss chard, parsnip, garlic, onion, shallot, eggs.”

Background of the farmer: Apodaca is a third-generation farmer. A current farm project is a CSA, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture. “Planning on starting up a CSA hopefully beginning this winter,” Apodaca reports. A CSA is a program in which consumers buy shares of produce directly from a farmer.

What’s fresh at the market this week: Apples, figs, hazelnuts, pears, plums, beets, carrots, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, heirloom tomatoes, herbs, kale, lettuce, onions, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, shallots, squash, tomatillos, flower bouquets, sunflowers, farm fresh eggs, goat cheeses, bakery items.

At the Key Peninsula Farmers Market this week: Master gardeners will answer questions at the Sept. 20 farmers market.

Upcoming at the market: Although the last day of the market is Sept. 27, the Key Peninsula Farmers Market will sponsor an “Eat Local for Thanksgiving” special market on Sat. Nov. 21 featuring local farmers and food producers.
