This week: John Deere Classic, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Deer Run, Silvis, Illinois.
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and Tacoma’s Troy Kelly.
First-round scores: Moore shot a 5-under-par 66, Stanley had an even-par 71, and Kelly shot a 2-over 73.
Position: Moore is tied for 11th, Stanley is tied for 81st, and Kelly is tied for 119th — all trailing co-leaders Brian Harman, Zach Johnson and Rory Sabbatini (63).
Recap: Moore had his 12th consecutive under-par round on this layout. Eleven of those scores have been in the 60s, and his bogey-free 66 is one shot off his lowest round at TPC Deer Run. He got things going with a near-holeout at No. 11, where he knocked a 9-iron mere inches away from the cup and made the tap-in birdie. He also birdied two of the par-5 holes on two-putts. … Stanley had a stretch of three bogeys in four holes on the front nine, but he birdied the par-5 10th hole by getting up-and-down from a greenside bunker. He two-putted from 60 feet at No. 17 for his final birdie. … Kelly birdied the seventh hole by rolling in a 20-foot putt to get back to eve -par. But on his final hole (No. 9), he needed three chip shots to reach the green from the right rough, and he ended with a double bogey.
Tee times Friday: Kelly at 5:10 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee, Stanley at 5:50 a.m. off the 10th tee and Moore at 10:45 a.m. off the first tee.
