This week: PGA Championship, Thursday through Sunday, Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky.
World ranking: 37th
PGA Championship appearances: Eighth
Best PGA Championship finish: Tied for ninth at the 2006 PGA Championship (9-under-par 279) at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago — his best finish at a major championship.
Never miss a local story.
Outlook: With everything at stake — the possibility of a first major title and making the U.S. Ryder Cup squad — the Puyallup golfer knows this is a huge week for his career. He is enjoying arguably the best stretch of golf in his career, too, with three top-eight finishes (including a tied-for-eighth effort at last week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational) and a tie for 12th at the British Open in July. In those four tournaments, he has shot a collective 44 under par. While he hasn’t had a lot of success recently at the PGA Championship — in his past four trips, he has missed the cut once and registered a tied-for-55th showing last season at Oak Hill — his recent run of play should again make him a top-10 play this week.
Tee time Thursday: 10:35 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee with Kenny Perry and Henrik Stenson.
