This week: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Thursday through Sunday, Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas.
In the field: Olympia’s Andres Gonzales and University Place’s Michael Putnam.
World rankings: Gonzales is 266th, and Putnam is 267th.
2014-15 earnings: Gonzales has $685,835 (84th on the PGA Tour), and Putnam has $369,275 (138th on the PGA Tour).
The skinny: Both locals played in last week’s Wells Fargo Championship and finished at 1-under-par 287, tying for 58th. (Gonzales also had a birthday Saturday, turning 32.) Gonzales has made 12 of 16 cuts this season and has finished at par or better in four of his past five tournaments. This will be the Capital High School graduate’s debut at Colonial. His instructor, Ann Marie Gildersleeve, works out of Austin Country Club, about three hours away. … It is a simple formula for Putnam — when he makes putts, he finishes high in tournaments. But he ranks 184th in strokes gained in putting. He is 2 for 2 in cuts made at Colonial, including a tied-for-38th finish last season (2-under 278).
Tee times Thursday: Putnam at 6:28 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee and Gonzales at 10:56 a.m. off the 10th tee.
