Last week: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Thursday through Sunday, Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas.
In the field: Olympia’s Andres Gonzales and University Place’s Michael Putnam.
Fourth-round score: Gonzales shot a 2-over-par 72.
Positions: Gonzales (3-over 283) finished tied for 71st, 15 strokes behind winner Chris Kirk (12-under 268). He earned $12,935. Putnam (4-over 144) missed the cut Friday.
Never miss a local story.
Recap: Gonales had too many double bogeys — or worse — to be a factor last week. His ugliest hole of the tournament was the 18th hole on Sunday (his ninth hole of the day). He hit his tee shot way right, then went for the green in two shots at the par 4 — and plopped his approach shot into a pond. Taking a drop and penalty stroke from the intermediate rough near the green, his fourth shot went 4 feet to the left and stopped farther away from the hole, leading to a triple-bogey 7. He finished the tournament with five holes of double bogey or worse.
Next: Gonzales, Putnam and Putnam’s brother Andrew are in the field for this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas.
