This week: AT&T Byron Nelson, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, Texas.
In the field: University Place’s Michael and Andrew Putnam, and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
First-round scores: Andrew Putnam and Gonzales each shot an even-par 70, and Michael Putnam shot a 2-over 72.
Positions: Gonzales and Andrew Putnam are tied for 60th, and Putnam is tied for 107th — trailing leader Steven Bowditch (62).
Recap: Gonzales hit his first drive of the day into a lake — and his last one, too. In fact, he found trouble to the right for much of his round, but he did make five birdies to offset that. His 70 was his fourth consecutive opening-round score of par or better. … On the other hand, Andrew Putnam’s 70 was only the second time in his past eight PGA Tour starts he opened with a round of par of better. He birdied No. 15 (4-iron approach shot to 8 feet) and No. 16 (wedge approach shot at par 5 to 31/2 feet). But he gave one shot back on the finishing hole after hitting his tee shot into the lake. … Michael Putnam had a rough front nine (three bogeys, one double bogey). His double bogey came at No. 8, where his pitch shot out of the rough carried over the green. He did make two short birdie putts, at Nos. 15 and 16.
Tee times Friday: Michael Putnam at 6:20 a.m. (PDT), Gonzales at 11:30 a.m. and Andrew Putnam at 11:50 a.m., all off the 10th tee.
