Scott White, a senior and two-year starter at linebacker, missed the Washington Huskies practice Thursday after publicly complaining about his demotion to the second unit.
"He was not out there today," coach Tyrone Willingham said to a variety of questions on the topic.
Willingham eventually added that he had met with White before practice on Thursday to discuss comments in that morning's Seattle Times that White might walk away from the program. Willingham said he left that conversation under the impression that White would be at the afternoon practice. However, he was a no-show, and Willingham said he had not spoken with White since then.
Willingham said that White's postion behind junior Dan Howell on the depth chart should not have come as a surprise to him.
Never miss a local story.
"I think there are always players who disagree with their positions and how it is perceived," Willingham said. "Scott was in a competition in spring practice – that wasn't a secret."
If White does not return, freshman junior Kyle Trew and freshman Matt Houston would become the leading candidates for the No. 2 position behind Howell.
