I love wandering campuses before games, and the Sooners do it about as well as anyone I've seen.
They start early. As I mentioned, they started last night. Today, the tailgaters arrived early and they absolutely came prepared – many with their own power generators and satellite dishes for keeping an eye on other TV games.
On the east side of the stadium there is a plaza with statues honoring Heisman Trophy winners Billy Vessels and Steve Owens. (If there's anything honoring Billy Sims and Jason White, I missed it.) To the north, there is a memorial to Oklahoma war dead from WWI and beyond – hence the name Memorial Stadium.
In the stadium there is a long sliver of purple-wearing Huskies fans in one end zone and halfway up one sideline. Otherwise, the place is the "sea of red" predicted by UW assistant coach Bob Simmons, who previously coached up the road at Oklahoma State.
UW captains are unchanged from opening week: Isaiah Stanback, Stanley Daniels, C.J. Wallace and Kenny James.
And, by the way, it's hot. A hazy sky, but no clouds and this feels like a September Oklahoma sun.
(I wasn't wrong about this. They just announced 91 degrees at kickoff.)
