The Huskies struggled a big early, and led only 7-6 after the first quarter.
But in the second quarter they seem to have established themselves as the far better team. The Huskies lead 13-4 in first downs and 265-103 in total yards. The score could be much worse, except the Huskies have three turnovers and the Spartans none.
Individually, Stanback is 11-for-14 with one interception; Rankin has 60 yards on three carries with one fumble; Corey Williams has three catches for 25 yards.
The new clock-management rule seems to be a non-factor. Both teams are tending to go straight to the line of scrimmage after changes of possession, and no particular confusion is apparent.
The Huskies' scores have come on a 17-yard Kenny James run, a really nice 34-yard burst by Louis Rankin, and a 21-yard pass from Isaiah Stanback to James. Two interesting things about that last one: It was James' first receiving touchdown ever at UW; and it was set up after coach Tyrone Willingham decided to forego a field goal attempt on a fourth and four from the SJSU 28. Stanback converted on a scramble.
