The later start to the game limited how much information we could get into the paper this morning.
Here are some leftover quotes I wished I could have used:
OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR TIM LAPPANO
ON STANBACK: "Issaiah was out emotional leader today against a good defense. ... Their game plan was to force Isaiah to beat them, and he did."
Never miss a local story.
ON TROUBLES RUN BLOCKING: "Six hundred and fifty pounds inside. That's the bottom line. they have 650 pounds inside and we didn't move them. We tried to get outside a little bit, and that didn't work. ... We're going to have to run the football better. We can't get away with this every week – not running the football. I'm a little bit annoyed about not being able to run the football. It was a great win, and we'll figure it out and we'll get it going."
ON THE MANY DROPS BY UW RECEIVERS: "Everybody was popping on it and wanting to get up field before they had it. It's the old (saying), 'Don't assume the routine catch, look the ball into the tuck and then get up field.'"
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR KENT BAER
ON THE SLOPPY TACKLING: "We didn't tackle very well. We didn't tackle well that first drive. We didn't tackle well the first drive of the second have. We have to figoure out how to come out and get going. ... (Fresno's Dwayne Wright) is a heck of a back. We knew he was going to pour it down hill at us. We were going to have to step up and make some physical tackles and he ran over us sometimes. ... All the stuff they did we worked on. We just weren't as physical as I thought we ought to be. ... They were running the ball very well, so the key was forcing them into some third downs"
ON THE APPARENTLY IMPROVED UW SECONDARY:
"We decided not to play Dashon (Goldson). We shouldn't have played him last week – his ankle's just not ready. So we moved a couple of people around. We put in C.J.(Wallace) Went to the nickel, Mesphin (Forrester) came in and did a nice job."
MATT FOUNTAINE ON THE CROWD: "That was a lot of fun being on the field hearing that roar again."
WALLACE ON THE CROWD: "The crowd helped us the whole game. Especialy on third down the crowd really got into it and when the crowd gets into it, it give a special energy to us."
WALLACE ON FRESNO: "Fresno State in my opiniion is a top 20 team. they're real good. We saw them play against a real good Oregon team, and they probably should have won the game. It's a good win. It's a big boost for us going into Pac-10."
LOUIS RANKIN PM NEOMG STOPPED: "They put an extra guy in the box and we never really got the running game going, but we had a chance to get the win in, so that was pretty good. ... We always expect to run the ball well and get the running game going. Today we had a little break. I think we should pick it up in practice and as the weeks go one, and hopefully nothing like this happens again. The most important thing is we got the win".
RANKIN ON THE FUTURE: "We said before, the sky's the limit. If everybody continues to work hard, we can win a lot of ballgames this year."
