Not much news from UW football today, but a few interesting things.
Apparently QB Isiah Stanback did suffer a hip pointer Saturday at USC, and apparently badly enough where coaches were getting ready to put Carl Bonnell in the game. It didn't happen, and Stanback says he'll be ready for Oregon State. Coach Tyrone Willingham agrees that Stanback will start against the Beavers, but the coach plans to make the quarterback take it easy in practice early this week.
I'll have more on that in tomorrow's paper.
Never miss a local story.
Offensive coordinator Tim Lappano said he will make increasing use of receiver Marlon Wood's game-breaking potential.
After watching film of the final seconds of the USC game, Garcia still maintains he could have gotten the final snap off before time ran out if the umpire had put the ball in play the same way he had throughout the game.
When Ben Ossai was benched for the first two series of the USC game – apparently for disciplinary reasons – junior Erik Berglund was sent in for the first playing time of his college career. "It felt great," Berglund said. "I feel like a real Division I football player."
