For anyone who read my story in this morning's paper, well, nevermind.
As it turned out, Joel Smith re-injured his foot in practice and won't play tonight and in fact might not play about another few weeks. We'll likely get more information from coach Lorenzo Romar after the Eastern game tonight.
Speaking of that, a few Eastern Washington notes:
Six Eagles played their high school ball in the Puget Sound area: Stuckey, Kentwood; Jake Beitinger, South Kitsap; Marcus Hinton, Wilson; Brandon Moore, Bethel; Chris Spinker, Curtis; and Kellen Williams, Franklin. … Big Sky Conference coaches pick EWU to finish third in the nine-team league, behind Northern Arizona and Montana. ... EWU is 12-62 all-time vs. current Pacific-10 Conference members. … The Huskies and Eagles have both had problems with turnovers. UW has committed an average of 22 per game, while EWU has averaged 18.5. … Eastern is coached by Mike Burns, a Tyee High School grad who went on to coach at Central Washington and was an assistant at Washington State. He calls UW "without question the best team we will face this year" – high praise considering the Eagles' one-sided loss to Gonzaga. … Tickets remain available for all UW November games, including this one.
