I'll weigh in later with some more thoughts on what we heard today at athletic director Todd Turner's press conference. But for now, I'll let the pictures do the talking.
I gotta admit. It looks pretty good.
The master plan includes more than just Husky Stadium. It could involve a redone and combined baseball/soccer/track complex. And the current administrative offices and outdoor tennis courts could be moved to give a clear-shot view from Montlake Boulevard to Lake Washington.
But, of course, the big issue is Husky Stadium ... which could become Insert-Your-Name-Here Field at Husky Stadium if you're willing to fork over enough money.
The track would be removed, the field would be lowered, and the seating bowl would come much closer to the playing surface.
As part of that, the deeply rounded west end zone would cut much closer to the field, and the outside of the new end zone structure would be an office complex housing the athletic offices, ticket office and probably a team shop. Between there and Mountlake would be a new entry plaza.
Naturally, there would be some kind of premium seating -- maybe suites, maybe some south-side version of the existing Don James center.
And beyond all of that, there would be improvements to the restrooms and concession areas, and the west end zone bleachers would be replaced by permanent seating.
All in all, it looks great. But it's probably many years and many millions of dollars from reality.
But if it's going to be a long journey, Friday was a pretty exciting first step.
Here is my story from the Friday paper.
