Tucson isn't used to watching the hometown Wildcats lose six out of eight games. So, not too surprisingly, some of the fans are showing signs of strain.
At least one paper actually raised the possibility that the Wildcats could miss the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1984 (after today, five of their last seven Pac-10 games are on the road). We were told there were lots of empty seats in the student section for the WSU game on Thursday.
However, Lute Olson is always very good about making time for the Puget Sound media, and he spent about 20 minutes with us yesterday, seeming to be the world's calmest man. The thought of missing the tournament doesn't seem to be on his radar at all, and he seems to really believe his team is as good as ... well, maybe as good as anybody's.
If he's just whistling past the graveyard, he's really good at it.
Never miss a local story.
And, of course, things will look either better or worse by mid-afternoon.
