Amazingly good defense by the Huskies. UCLA missed its first seven shots and are eight of 31 for the half. Actually, neither team is shooting well: UW 37.5 percent, UCLA 25.8 percent.
Granted, UCLA has little to play for. But the case could be made that they have more to play for than the Huskies. UCLA, at least, wants a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, and that's more likely with a win today than with a loss.
Jon Brockman and Ryan Appleby lead UW with eight points each. Lorenzo Mata leads UCLA, also with eight.
The Bruins' player of the year candidates are off to slow starts: four points by Arron Afflalo and none by Darren Collison on 0-for-5 shooting.
UW is dominating the boards, 25 rebounds to 18.
By the way, seniors Hans Gasser and Brandon Burmeister played about a minute and a half before being subbed for by normal starters Spencer Hawes and Quincy Pondexter.
