The Huskies had their final meeting with the media today before flying out to Los Angeles tomorrow for the Pac-10 men's basketball tournament.
There wasn't much real news except reaction to Jon Brockman being named to the all-conference team, Spencer Hawes being named all-conference honorable mention and all-freshman, and Quincy Pondexter being named all-freshman honorable mention.
Some of those reactions:
BROCKMAN ON THE HONOR
I was excited. It's a huge honor: excited. Just think that there are so many good player in the league this year and to be recognized in that group is a huge honor and it's something to be proud of.
BROCKMAN ON IF HE WAS SURPRISED
You never really know. I've never been the kind of person who's worried about personal stats or how your stat sheet is at the end of the game or if you're leading the league in anything.
Never miss a local story.
ROMAR ON BROCKMAN'S SELECTION
Definitely well deserved. A no-brainer, as far as I'm concerned. I think it's great for him to be rewarded for his hard work and consistency.
ROMAR ON HAVING BROCKMAN AND HAWES ON HIS TEAM
Those guys are pretty good. I know that we go into games confident that they're going to have an impact on any game that we play. That's how we feel. In comparing them (with other big men), I'm not sure where they are, I just know I wouldn't trade them for any other two.
HAWES ON HIS HONOR
My goal was to be All-Pac-10 and to try to be conference player of the year and freshman of the year. I don't think I lived up to those standards. You have to set a high bar, and if you don't make it, it's not the end of the world.
PONDEXTER ON HIS HONOR
There are a lot of great players in the Pac-10 this year. You always hope for the best, but with the Pac-10 being such a great conference, I really didn't feel I was going to be on that team. It's just an honor to be an honorable mention, and I'll build on that next year.
