UW had a closed practice today in shells: helmets and shoulder pads.
Without being able to watch, the reporters just interviewed again today. I concentrated on the defensive line speaking to coach Randy Hart, senior Greyson Gunheim, and redshirt freshman Cameron Elisara.
Few things in life make me feel the passage of time more than writing the words "senior Greyson Gunheim." I can't believe it was four seasons ago that he arrived with all that potential as a speed-rushing end.
And now, this will really be his last chance to try to live up to all that potential. And same for the other veteran linemen, who have to produce now or be replaced by yet another crop of high-potential younger players.
Never miss a local story.
Anyway, that's kind of the topic of my story for the Friday paper.
We also got a few little nuggets of news from Coach Willingham:
*The team will move into full pads on Saturday.
*Willingham said he is pleased with the NCAA's decision to rescind the rules that we enacted last season to quicken the game.
*Receiver Quintin Daniels has missed some of his repetitions due to a hip flexor injury.
*Former UW players have been invited to attend practice Saturday, a Willingham tradition. Last season, about 140 former Huskies attended, and the coach said he hopes to top that number this weekend.
