The University of Washington is inviting its fans to attend Friday when the men’s basketball team holds its first practice for the 2009-10 season.
The free event will begin at 7:15 p.m. at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. It will include player introductions, a dunk contest and scrimmage -- along with a dubious-sounding "non-basketball performances" by players and coaches.
The Huskies return three starters and eight lettermen from the 26-9 team that won the program’s first Pacific-10 Conference regular-season championship last season. The event also will mark the public debut of UW freshmen Abdul Gaddy of Tacoma and Clarence Trent of Gig Harbor.
The UW festivities will be part of so-called “Midnight Madness” events that will be televised by ESPNU from 6-10 p.m. The cable network will include parts of the UW practice, along with practices from eight other schools. ESPN2 will simulcast the coverage from 8:30 to 9 p.m.
The basketball festivities will follow a 6 p.m. volleyball match against UCLA. Normal admission is required for that event.
