Umm … not to brag, but the weather is ideal here in Pasadena – somewhere in the 60s, and only a light haze that will eventually give way to blue skies – as fans start milling in The Rose Bowl.
Ten minutes ago, the team came in through the south side tunnel.
Jake Locker was walking slowly with no limp, his head down as he put his arm around a teammate.
I really like this venue. All the multi-million dollar homes in the background up on the hills, the mountains, the palm trees. There were three machines on the field before the players arrived rolling the grass, just so that it's extra tight for game footing.
Talking briefly to Robert Kuwada, a former Tacoma News Tribune sportswriter who's covered the Los Angeles scene for a while now, including UCLA.
He was telling me he thinks UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince has a chance to be a really good one for the Bruins, but that the three weeks off from the broken jaw, suffered against Tennessee, really set his progress back.
They're young, he added.
Just enough to make them dangerous.
I'll have updates later.
** UPDATE I: A quick jersey switch. With Anthony Boyles going to defense, he is wearing No. 5. Linebacker Matt Houston is switching to No. 45.
** UPDATE II: Two items. One, Chris Polk is wearing a dark protective harness around his right shoulder. Two, Tacoma's Jay Stricherz gets his first UW assignment in 2009 as the referee for this game.
** UPDATE III: We're 25 minutes from kickoff, and surprisingly it's Morgan Rosborough and Drew Schaefer running with the No. 1 offense in warm-up drills. Rosborough would be in for Senio Kelemete and Schaefer would be in for Ben Ossai. No word if that's official.
