The four coaches whose teams will take part in the John Wooden Classic tomorrow shared the podium this afternoon. Each took time to praise Wooden, who wasn't up to attending today's events, but who does plan to attend the games tomorrow: UW-Georgetown and UCLA-Mississippi State.
Here are a couple of highlights from Georgetown coach John Thompson III, and from UW's Lorenzo Romar:
Thompson: "I’m excited to see Coach (Wooden) tomorrow, I’m excited to be here. My guys are excited to be a part of this event. I’m not excited about the opponent that we play. We come across country to play against one of the better teams – better-coached teams, as well – in the country. We have our work cut out for us tomorrow. We just have to see if we can make them miss and see if we can make some baskets ourselves."
Romar: "Coach Thompson says they’re going to figure out a way to (make us) miss: I’m thinking we’ve got less than 24 hours to try and figure out how we’re going to score against Georgetown, because they are a very very solid team. They are very disciplined offensively and defensively. They’re a very well-coached team. They’ve got some talent on that team and we’ve got our work cut out against the Hoyas."
