With Gonzaga the only ranked (and highly ranked) team in the state right now, I asked coach Lorenzo Romar if tonight's game against Seattle U. and the Saturday afternoon game against Washington State could serve as a sort of round-robin to determine who's No. 2.
He asked me to repeat the question, and we still may not have fully communicated, because his answer dealt more with "program" rather than "team this year."
Still, here's the answer:
"I don’t’ think you can look at one game and decide that. I think you look at the body of work with all programs and decide that. I think that might decide who’s got the better team that night. But who’s got the best program? I don’t think you look at one game, or two games. If that was the case, there was a time I remember we had beaten Arizona five out of seven times. That didn’t mean we were the better program at the time."
