Huskies win, 92-64. Cougs led by as much as 11 in the first half, but Washington dominated the second half, 56-24.
Pondexter leads all scorers with 29. WSU's Klay Thompson held to seven points -- about 15 under his Pac-10-leading average.
Romar reaction:“I thought in the first half they probably played harder than we did. They were really focused. They got going from the 3-point stripe. … Our guys collected themselves and came out in the second half, and I thought we really, really competed hard; and that made a difference.”
Ken Bone reaction: “Well, that was a disaster, that second half. I think the Huskies showed who they are on some nights. … Those last 20 minutes were a pretty frustrating experience.”
Never miss a local story.
Both teams are now 14-7 on the season, and 4-5 after the first half of Pac-10 play.
3:52/2nd UW 85, WSU 57.
Pondexter out with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Klay Thompson, seven points, seven boards.
8:01: UW 70, WSU 50. That means a 34-10 run over the first 12 minutes of the second half.
11:56/2nd UW 58, WSU 45. Cougs finally got a field goal after 13 straight misses. Isaiah Thomas has three treys in the half.
15:11/2nd UW up 48-41 as the Huskies have opened the second half with a 12-1 run and the Cougs have opened the second half by missing 11 straight shots.
Halftime: UW nosed in front for the first time at the 2:26 mark. But WSU moved back ahead 40-36 at the break.
Koprivica leads WSU with 13 and Xavier Thames has 11 off the bench.
Quincy Pondexter has 19 for UW, but no other Husky has more than 5 (Breshers).
WSU shooting 44.4 percent, UW 33.3. Rebounds even at 22. WSU nine turnovers, UW four.
Score tied three times. Four lead changes.
3:41/1st WSU up, 31-28. However, UW completed its long climb back by pulling even at 28-28. And the game has gotten heated, with a double-technical called on Quincy Pondexter and WSU's Marcus Capers after a brief tangle under the UW basket.
Another nice hand as Steve Sarkisian is shown on the board. But not a fraction of what Brandon Roy got.
7:36/1st WSU, 25-22. Huskies -- and certainly crowd -- getting back in it.
And during this timeout we just got what might have been the loudest cheer of the night as Trail Blazer/former Husky Brandon Roy was spotlighted on the video screen.
11:37/1st WSU, 17-10. Huskies starting to make some hustle plays. But Kpprivica has three treys already.
15:38/1st WSU, 11-3. (Only UW field goal by Breshers.)
Klay Thompson entered at the 18:13 mark.
Tipoff: As promised, the Huskies have returned to their familiar starting lineup: Isaiah Thomas, Abdul Gaddy, Quincy Pondexter, Justin Holiday and Tyreese Breshers.
The surprise comes from Washington State, where leading scorer Klay Thompson is being left out of the starting lineup as punishment for being late to the team bus yesterday.
Also as promised, they're decked out in black -- as is much of the sold out home crowd. (Cougs are in grey.) The Huskies unis are identical to their light gold ones, except of course for the color. That is, the striping is the same. And they say "Huskies" in front, rather than "Washington." The jersey numbers are purple with gold trim
