In celebration of the final season of Mac Court, the Ducks are inviting honorary captains who have previously coached or played for each visiting Pac-10 team in the arena.
Representing the Huskies tonight is Brandon Roy. As a Portland Trail Blazer, he said he thought about a redder, safer wardrobe choice for tonight. But he finally decided he's a Husky and is wearing purple.
(Although he granted that he's curious about what sort of reception he'll receive.)
A few quotes:
Never miss a local story.
On being honored at a UW-Oregon game: It was great for me because I got a chance to go into the locker room and see Coach Romar. The NBA schedule is so busy I don’t get a chance to see them as much as I would like. I was definitely honored. On what his teammates thought: They were wondering, ‘You’re going to be honored at an Oregon game?’ It’s cool for me to be back here.
On wearing purple: I was thinking maybe wear a Blazers jersey. But you know, I said I’m a Husky, I’m a Husky alum, and that’s what this rivalry is about. For four years I always wore purple… and that’s why I said I’m going to wear my purple.
