Washington got to hear Oregon’s McArthur Court rocking one last time Thursday.
However, the Huskies weathered that final challange by the Ducks before claiming one final win, 86-72, in the oldest gym in the Pacific-10 Conference.
It was Washington’s third consecutive road win, and moves them to 20-9 overall and 10-7 in the Pacific-10 Conference win one regular season game remaining: Saturday at Oregon State. (The Beavers beat Washington State by two tonight at Gill Coliseum.)
Oregon had led at halftime, 40-39. But the Huskies took control with an 11-0 run early in the second half. But just when Washington seemed on the verge of putting Oregon away, the Ducks made one last charge, which UW finally snuffed in the final minutes.
Never miss a local story.
Huge night by Quincy Pondexter, who had a career-high 34 points.
I'll be back with more stats, notes and quotes.8:44/2nd:
Two Pondexter dunks after Thomas passes, and Huskies are up 67-53.
11:55/2nd: UW up 60-52.
15:18/2nd: The Ducks just ended an 11-0 run by the Huskies, which has UW up 54-46.
17:21/2nd: UW has slipped back in front, 50-44, behind a pair of Justin Holiday -- yes, Justin Holiday -- 3-pointers.
Halftime: Oregon 40, Washington 39.
Pondexter 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Porter 12 and Dunigan 11 for the Ducks.
UW leads in rebounds, 16-14. Huskies shooting 53.1 percent, Oregon 30. Nine turnovers by the Huskies, six by the Ducks.
UW's big men are drawing fouls: three on Breshers, two on MBA and Gant.
3:45/1st: Oregon, 34-31. MBA went down hard a moment ago, whacking his head on the court. It looked scary at the time, and he left the game briefly, but is back in now.
6:01/1st: Ducks have nudged in front, 30-28. Pondexter has 16 (unofficially). Porter 10 for Ducks.
11:39/1st: UW up, 19-13. Pondexter, 11 points already. Dunigan heating up, and he and MBA have already had bumps and words.
15:49/1st: UW up, 10-5. Six points from MBA, four by Q-Pon.
Tip-off: Washington going with usual starters: Thomas, Gaddy, Pondexter, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Holiday. The latter wasn't in the lineup last time these teams met, and MBA wasn't playing then like he's playing now.
Huskies in purple, Ducks in white.
Btw, nothing but cheers -- a standing ovation at that -- for Brandon Roy -- even by the Pit Crew -- despite his UW warmup jacket.
Pregame: A quick programming note reminding that this game will not be on live TV, and neither will it be streamed on the Ducks' website. Oregon officials apparently made an error regarding live video, never formally submitted a waiver request to the Pac-10/FSN to stream the game. So, the game will not be shown live.
It's on the normal radio network. And, of course, we'll keep this blog going before, during and after the game.
