Washington completed a two-game sweep over Oregon State today with a 82-70 win at Gill Coliseum.
They’ll try to make it three-for-three at 6 p.m. Thursday when the Huskies and Beavers will be paired again in the Pacific-10 Conference tournament at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The Huskies concluded the regular season at 21-9 overall and 11-7 in the Pac-10 and will be the third seed in the tournament. The sixth-seeded Beavers finshed their regular season 14-16 and 8-10.
I'll be back with notes and quotes.
7:45/2nd: UW, 66-53. Thomas 19, MBA 18, Pondexter 14.
11:45/2nd: UW, 58-45.
17:39/2nd: The Huskies have scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 44-29 lead on the Beavers.
Remember: A UW win sets up a Huskies-Beavers rematch Thursday in the Pac-10 tournament.
Halftime: UW up, 37-29. The turning point so far might have been a "You got swatted" chant that the OSU students aimed at Isaiah Thomas. Thomas took note and went off for 11 first-half points, virtually all of them after the chant. Thomas also made a lot of eye contact with the students after each scoring drive. And he's seemed to chat a bit with some Beavers, too.
Matthew Bryan-Amaning hit a jumper just ahead of the buzzer, however, to take the scoring lead with 12. Pondexter has eight. Joe Burton leads the Beavs with eight.
UW shooting 55.2 percent ... especially good against the OSU 1-3-1 zone. So are their mere three turnovers.
OSU is shooting 43.5 percent, and leads in rebounding 16-14.
No one has more than two fouls.
11:15/1st: UW up, 15-12. Six points each from Pondexter and MBA. Six also from Jared Cunningham for OSU.
Tip-off: Huskies doing with normal starters: Thomas, Gaddy, Pondexter, Holiday and MBA.
Pregame: It's senior day at OSU, as Calvin Hampton, Roeland Schaftenaar, Josh Tarver and Seth Tarver say goodbye to Gill Coliseum.
Also a note that we'll do our normal in-game and post-game blogging today, and also complete the Pac-10 tournament pairing information begun below.
