The Big East is considered the most powerful of power leagues, while the Pacific-10 Conference’s down year has been among the most documented stories of the season.
Given that, UW coach Lorenzo Romar admits the Huskies are playing a bit for conference pride when they face Marquette at 4:20 p.m. Thursday.
“Whether we like it of not, I think that’s what it is,” he said. “I think every team that’s in this field is representing their conference. But again, that is probably not the thing that we’re going out thinking, the reason we have to with this game.”
Meanwhile, Marquette coach Buzz Williams said he believes there are stylistic differences between conferences, but he sees nothing of the Pac-10’s soft reputation in the Huskies.
Never miss a local story.
“They’re very physical,” he said. “I don’t think they’re finesse in any sort of way. ... I think (Venoy Overton) is the heart and soul of their team, and he probably doesn’t get enough credit.”
