Finally, a turnover.
And it came from the unlikeliest source – placekicker Erik Folk.
Folk, the junior from Woodland Hills, Calif., was a busy man, in fact. Not only did he kick another field goal – a 24-yarder – his fumble recovery during a kickoff set up the Huskies' go-ahead score.
It was the UW's first turnover this season.
Never miss a local story.
Folk's recovery came at the Orange 22. Six plays later, Jake Locker connected with Jermaine Kearse just inside the right pylon for a 5-yard touchdown, giving the UW a 13-10 lead at the 4:09 mark.
Syracuse's Ryan Nassib struck on a 32-yard completion to Aaron Weaver at the Huskies' 26 late in the half, and appeared poised for a game-tying field goal. With six seconds to go, Nassib was hit during a play. The ball came out of his hands, and time expired.
The play was reviewed, and the UW returned from the tunnel to await the ruling. The officiating crew confirmed it was a fumble, and not an incomplete pass, which would have given Syracuse one final crack at points.
