From his office, Lane Kiffin claims text messages sent to Steve Sarkisian have gone unanswered.
Never miss a local story.
What's the deal?
"He's probably trying to show how busy he is," Kiffin said.
Of course, it is a busy time as Kiffin's 4-0 Southern California team hosts Sarkisian's 1-2 Washington team on Saturday at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Both former assistants under Pete Carroll at USC, the two have maintained weekly contact – even this week as the matchup looms.
"(The contact) has been the same," Sarkisian said.
Not returning Kiffin's text claims?
"That's not true," Sarkisian said.
Here is Sarkisian's segment from the Pacific-10 Conference call Tuesday:
• On his approach with comments about and from his team on the Internet?"I think that comes with the territory. When you're in the public eye, and you're playing Division I college football as we are, that comes with the territory. We recommend not to get caught up in that, but ultimately I can't control them that way. One of the big keys we make a big point of emphasis on is not elaborating on what goes on within our own walls – whether it be Twitter, or social networking, to keep what's in-house, to keep it in-house."
• On whether he expects USC to be angry about last year's 16-13 upset loss?"I don't know. It's a great matchup, it's the same as it is. The further as the months go by that I'm away from USC, and that I'm here at Washington, the more of the story of myself going back to play USC is just going to continue to dissolve."
• On if the UW passing attack has suffered without injured James Johnson (ankle) and departed Kavario Middleton (to Montana)?"I don't think it's had that much of an effect. I think Cody Bruns has played well. I think D'Andre Goodwin has played well. I think Jesse Callier has brought some things in the mix for us. … Marlion Barnett has made his plays. Our passing took a hit because it went up against a really good pass defense of Nebraska."
• On if he's confident Jake Locker will have a rebound performance at USC?"I think we've addressed the issues that need to be addressed. We've got a game plan that should be conducive to him playing well."
