UW guard Venoy Overton is back at practice and expected to be available Saturday when the Huskies open their 2010-11 basketball season at home against McNeese State.
Overton returned to practice Monday after missing most of preseason camp with a hamstring injury.
"Yesterday at practice I did most of the things I wanted to do," Overton said. "I've just got to get some more reps in, I've got to get my wind back up."
Less certain is forward Darnell Gant, who sat out Saturday's exhibition win over Saint Martins with a groin injury.
"We've said this in many preliminary occasions, but the season really is here now," coach Lorenzo Romar said. "It's not practice is about to begin, or exhibition games. We're about to play our opener, and I think going into that game I'll feel a little like when you're taking that exam: Right before they hand you the test you wonder, 'Did I study enough?' I just hope we're ready to go for that opener. I think we made strides in the Saint Martin's game. I think there were some areas that we weren't as good, but I also thought we had made progress from the previous week."
Romar also said he expects to receive four letters of intent Wednesday, which is basketball signing day.
