It took a pretty good defensive effort in the second half, and a Terrence Ross emergence on both ends to propel the Huskies an 87-80 victory over UC-Santa Barbara at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
The win game UW coach Lorenzo Romar his 200th victory with the Huskies.
After Orlando Johnson torched the Huskies in the first half, Ross and company really frustrated the Gauchos' star after halftime, forcing him into five turnovers.
UW took a 77-67 lead with 5:26 to go, gave the Gauchos a couple of easy transition buckets on lazy passes as UC-Santa Barbara went on a 10-0 run to tied it at 77-77 at the 3:30 mark.
Never miss a local story.
The key UW possession came right after that. Desmond Simmons got an offensive rebound off a Ross miss. And after Abdul Gaddy went hard to the basket, but missed, Darnell Gant got inside Johnson for position on a putback, and three-point play for an 80-77 UW lead.
The Huskies would lead from then on.
Tony Wroten finished with 27 points for the UW.
