University of Washington athletic department officials announced today that the Huskies' 2013 football season opener against Boise State has been moved from Sept. 7 to Aug. 31. The move was largely based on a scheduling conflict with the Broncos, who decided to schedule a home game with Tennessee-Martin on Sept. 7.
The matchup will be Washington’s first home game in Husky Stadium following its $250 million renovation. Washington athletics director Scott Woodward assuaged any doubts that the stadium might not be ready for the earlier date.
“The diligent work and progress made to date by our development team of Wright Runstad & Co., Turner Construction, and 360 Architects has instilled great confidence that the Husky Stadium renovation will remain on time and on budget,” Woodward said in the press release. “Because of that confidence, we feel very comfortable pushing this game forward to a date which better serves both institutions."
