Beat writers aren't supposed to be fans. But we are human and we were cheering for Deontae Cooper. Unfortunately, the kid who can't get a break suffered another injury setback. Cooper, a talented, hard-nosed running back, has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee the last two seasons. Finally back and cleared to practice, Cooper suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during Wednesday's practice. It's a cruel twist of fate for a bright and friendly kid, who never complained about what had happened to him.
When you watch the video above, you see a kid that is so thankful to be back on the field. A kid who is thankful for the privilege of playing college football.
This quote stands out ...
"Til the doctor tells me I can't play, if I tear my ACL five more times, I'm going to keep going."
“I am saddened and dismayed to report that Deontae Cooper has torn the ACL in his right knee while participating in a non-contact drill during practice. Deontae has done everything we have asked of him, and has been an example to his teammates with his hard work in the classroom, and the dedication he showed in returning from two previous ACL surgeries in his left knee. Our football program will do everything we can to support him in this tough time.” -Coach Sark
