That's it from Hec Ed. Washington was cranked on the boards by Colorado State. Rams finished with 21 offensive rebounds and Washington had 20 TOTAL rebounds. Huskies lose 73-55 to fall to 2-3.
Washington guard Scott Suggs is in a walking boot and will not play against Colorado State. Earlier in the week, Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar said Suggs had a strained arch, but would probably play Saturday. Suggs has plantar fasciitis on his right foot and will sit out tonight.
Desmond Simmons takes his starting spot. Game thread on the jump:
> Colorado State was 9-for-39, shooting 23 percent, from 3 prior to this. Rams 8-for-18 tonight.
> Washington has sat down Aziz N'Diaye and Abdul Gaddy. Fans streaming out. This one will be over soon. Colorado State leads 69-49.
> CSU now has as many offensive rebounds as Washington has rebounds. Demolished on the boards.
> Gaddy has missed the front end of two one-and-ones badly, barely drawing rim on the second trip, and that has cost Washington up to four points. It just can't get going. The Huskies trail by 10, 54-44, with 7:47 left in the game.
> Colorado State has gone on a 15-0 run to take a 47-38 lead with 12:31 left in the game. The Rams have been doing it without big center Colton Iverson. No Suggs is finally catching up with Washington.
> Washington's six-point lead has disappeared after three terrible trips up the floor. Gaddy led a 3 on 1 break that ended in Wilcox getting blocked. Martin Breunig continues to be extremely ineffective. He just turned the ball over and is playing at a speed much too slow for Div. I basketball. Colorado State has regained the lead after scoring on the break and being fouled. It's 39-38 CSU with 14:44 remaining.
> Wilcox to the rim again. Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy calls TO with 17:05 left and Washington leading 38-32. Wilcox with 15 shot attempts already. Iverson has posted N'Diaye twice and scored since N'Diaye is playing straight up and backing off in order not to pick up his third foul. Rams working to get it on him.
> How long N'Diaye can go without picking up his third foul will be crucial. Expecting Eustachy to have Iverson go right at him.
> Washington leads 30-28 at the half. Wilcox has 13 points and is driving to the hoop much more, but he is 6-for-13 from the field. N'Diaye had to sit for almost all of the final four minutes after picking up his second foul. Washington has been thrashed on the boards. Colorado State has 13 offensive boards and 10 defensive boards.
> There's the zone. Romar calls timeout, tells them to get into it with 10 seconds left on the clock, and they force an air ball out of it.
> Under 4 timeout and Washington leads 25-24 after a goaltend by Desmond Simmons. Abdul Gaddy has nine points, Wilcox with 11 still. Rams big man Colton Iverson, a transfer from Minnesota, already has seven boards. He won't see N'Diaye for the rest of the half.
> Second on N'Diaye with 4:42 left. Foul trouble for him at any point would be a huge issue for Washington, let alone today. Jarreau in for him.
> Washington has been out of system the past few possessions, but lead 20-19 with 5:52 to go. Andrew Andrews' shooting struggles are continuing. He just bricked a pull-up 3-pointer and is now 4-for-21 on the season from the field. Wilcox is carrying Washington without Suggs. He has 11 points. The Huskies are still getting thumped on the boards. Colorado State has nine offensive rebounds.
> We've seen the good and bad with Jernard Jarreau today. Hit a wing jumper, which he's been able to do consistently early in the season, but was stripped of an O board and just threw it away because he's still too weak.
> Wilcox has such an affinity for his off hand when close to the hoop. Jams with it, shot a hook with it last week, lays it in there.
> Washington up 8-6 with 15:49 to go in the first half. After a brutal opening, Washington gave up four offensive rebounds on Colorado State's first possession, the Huskies have run crisp offense. Abdul Gaddy had a highlight drive, C.J. Wilcox hit a jumper and Aziz' N'Diaye had a stickback. Washington has twice posted its guards -- Wilcox then Gaddy -- in the first few minutes of the game. Simmons being on the floor instead of Suggs has constricted some spacing, but Washington is surviving that, for now.
> Colorado State, with two veteran guards and a skilled center, is arguably the toughest team that will visit Hec Ed during Washington's non-conference schedule.
