Opening Statement:Probably the most physical game we’ve played all year. Lost of contact neither team backed off from the other. Arizona did a great job defending us, we did a great job of defending them, and the difference in the game was they scored twenty points off of our turnovers, we scored 10 off of ours and we had the same number of turnovers, 17. We had more turnovers that were of the touchdown type, where there is no defense for it. They got out and they were able to get easy baskets and we also didn’t shoot foul shots as well. In a close game like that when you combine those two that’s the difference in the game. Very hard fought game. Our guys definitely came ready to play.
On what caused the turnovers:I don’t think we made very good decisions; that had something to do with the turnovers. We were just too negligent too many times. It hurt us, it cost us the game.
On choosing to leave CJ in with 3 fouls:He’s really good, tried to give him a chance to play through it. With his fourth foul he came back in with 8 minutes to go and didn’t foul again.
On if this tough stretch is wearing on the team mentally:It could. We have a quick turn around for the first time in conference where we play on Saturday, so we can’t let it linger too much. We have to turn the page and play against a really good Arizona State team on Saturday.
On the last couple possessions:The first turnover we had a back screen where CJ is wide open, you go back and look at the film you’ll see he was wide open. We didn’t complete the pass. It was there. Second time we had CJ coming to the basket and that’s what were trying to get. I thought CJ might have been open and the play was not called for Aziz to take a shot. The play was to get a layup and foul right away. We could have been a little gun shy because we had just turned the ball over and maybe we didn’t want to try to throw that ball to CJ when he’s coming to the basket. But I can’t wait to watch it to see if he was in fact open. I thought he had a couple steps coming to the basket on Nick Johnson.
