Welcome to Hec Ed for a Sunday matinee. How strange, eh?
A small group of Cougars fans just finished chanting, "Apple Cup!" and we're heading toward tip-off. Gamethread on the jump:
> Washington rallies and hangs on to beat the Cougars, 72-68. First time this year Washington has had two players (Suggs and Wilcox with 23 each) with 20-plus points. Motum and Woolridge with 18 each for WSU.
> Wilcox just blew past Kernich-Drew for a lefty layin and Woolridge answered with a hoop of his own. Washington leads 68-63 with 42.5 second to go.
> Suggs hits two more FTs and Washington goes up eight, 65-57. It's in the double bonus, too.
> Suggs having an excellent offensive game. He has a career-high tying 5 3s and 19 points on 10 shots. Washington leads 60-57 with 3:18 to go.
> Abdul Gaddy just drove to the hoop and put up his patented floater to give Washington a 55-54 lead. Timeout Washington State with 6L17 to go.
> Under-8 timeout and WSU hanging onto its slim lead, up 53-50 with Wilcox going to the line for two shots. Shooting percentages down for both teams in the second half.
> Under-12 timeout and Washington State still leads, 49-46, with 11:42 to go.
> Timeout Washington State. Suggs hits a 3-pointer after Shawn Kemp Jr.'s offensive rebound gave the Huskies an extra shot. The Cougars lead 47-46 with 13:26 to go.
> Under-16 timeout and Washington State leads 45-41 after getting a big boost when Aziz N'Diaye was called for a flagrant 1 foul. N'Diaye tried to go through a Brock Motum screen and got his forearm into Motum's throat. Motum fell to the floor for a bit of a sell and got the call. It was definitely a foul. Motum hit both then Dexter Kernich-Drew hit a 3 for a five-point possession for the Cougars.
> Gaddy with a skilled drive to score at the horn and Washington leads 34-32 at the half.
> The Cougars were on a 15-3 run to grow their lead to 30-23, but consecutive 3-pointers by Wilcox and Suggs have pulled Washington back to within 30-29. Wilcox is 4 for 6 and Suggs 2 for 4. All of Suggs' shots have been 3s. His corner 3 in this run came right before the horn went off.
> Washington State is on a 10-3 run to take a four-point lead. D.J. Shelton just drove all the way from the top of the key and jammed. Scott Suggs chose not to get in his way and watched. Shelton's jam got the WSU bench up and Shelton followed with a 3-pointer. There's 4:54 left in the first half.
> Under-8 timeout. Washington leads 20-17. Will Dilorio has given the Cougars a lift off the bench with five consecutive points.
> Andrews hits a 3, very rare. He's 13 for 60 (21.7 percent) on the season. Washington leads 13-12 at the under-12 timeout. Motum hit the first two baskets of the game and has not scored since Simmons was put on him.
> Under-16 timeout and Washington leads 6-5 after a 6-0 run. Only Motum has scored for WSU. Wilcox off to a nice start for UW. Since Simmons entered the game, Motum has two touches on four possessions and one shot, which was blocked by Aziz N'Diaye.
> Kemp is way late on Motum and Simmons is already off the bench and to the table. Motum has five.
> Huskies with usual starters despite job Simmons did on Motum last time: Gaddy, Suggs, Wilcox, Kemp and N'Diaye. Cougars go with Woolridge, Lacy, Kernich-Drew, Motum and Shelton.
> Aziz N'Diaye's mom is in front of the Dawg Pack, here to watch her son play in the United States for the first time. She made the long trek from Senegal and will be here to watch N'Diaye's final three home games.
