The second portion of spring practice started Tuesday morning. Some quick-hitters:
> Lineman Erik Kohler was on the field for the first time since a knee injury ended his season in the second game last year. He took some snaps and played right guard. He became fatigued quickly, which is expected for someone coming off his injury. Colin Tanigawa is the next offensive lineman Washington hopes to get back, but that won't happen until the fall.
> New kicker Cameron Van Winkle got his first work in. He was 2-for-5 his first day. Travis Coons, whom he is fighting for field-goal duties, was 5-for-5.
> Speaking of kicking, Thomas Vincent will be the holder. He played quarterback in high school and gives Washington much of the same flexibility that Cody Bruns did at that spot the past two years.
Never miss a local story.
> Wide receiver Jaydon Mickens, who showed suspect hands last season, made a nice sideline catch Tuesday. He also blocked a lot in bubble screens. He said he learned last year that he can't just get away with relying on athleticism anymore.
> Head coach Steve Sarkisian said quarterback Keith Price was outstanding in five of the first six practices. Any myth about a quarterback battle or the starting job being open should be over by now. By any measure -- reps, group worked with, general success -- the job is clearly Price's. He said Tuesday that he will throw on the side to Austin Seferian-Jenkins while the tight end is suspended pending an investigation to a citation for driving under the influence.
> Derrick Brown appears out of the quarterback mix. He tried some punts Tuesday and Sarkisian said they are trying different things with him. It looks like Cyler Miles is moving into the No. 2 spot occupied by Brown last season.
> Michael Hartvigson and Evan Hudson are splitting reps at tight end with Seferian-Jenkins out.
> DT Sione Potoa'e has a broken finger and is wearing a "club" on his hand at practice. Sarkisian said RBs Deontae Cooper and Jesse Callier haven't had any setbacks and are progressing toward fall returns.
