The Minnesota Timberwolves waived former Huskies star Brandon Roy on Friday, likely ending Roy's NBA career.
The knee problems that started in college continued all the way into his time in Minnesota despite Roy doing everything he could to get them in shape. Here's a long story on the preparation for his comeback attempt.
Roy signed a two-year deal with Minnesota last season. The second year was not guaranteed and contingent on his health in the first. Roy played just five games for Minnesota last season because of knee problems.
After Portland used the amnesty clause on Roy in prior to the lockout season of 2011-12, he spent a season away from the NBA. During that time, he talked to Lorenzo Romar about possibly working as a graduate assistant and became interested in learning the ropes of coaching. Once Roy decided on a return to the NBA, that preliminary talk was shelved. Perhaps it will come up again down the line.
