Longtime assistants Jim Shaw and Paul Fortier have left the Washington basketball staff.
The school announced the move Wednesday. Fortier is expected to latch on with another school. Shaw will be looking for work.
Washington brought back former assistant Raphael Chillious and hired T.J. Otzelberger from Iowa State during the offseason. Otzelberger and Chillious each get two-year deals at Washington through March 31, 2015.
Last season was Shaw's ninth with the team. He was responsible for scheduling and scouting. Fortier, who played at Washington, was on staff for eight seasons. Last year, he was moved to Director of Player Personnel and Development, essentially mitigating his coaching duties.
The moves make Washington's staff significantly younger.
Chillious and Otzelberger are both in their 30s. Chillious also has significant ties to Nike, which tends to help in recruiting.
Otzelberger will become Washington's recruiting coordinator. Chillious will also be involved in recruiting and work with the guards, essentially the same role he had in his first go-around at Washington from 2010-12.
Brad Jackson will continue to lead the game scouting and work with the big men.
The Huskies also hired a new strength and conditioning coach, Daniel Shapiro. He was the Sacramento Kings' strength and conditioning coach for eight years prior to being hired by Washington on a three-year deal. Matt Ludwig had been the men's basketball strength and conditioning coach since 2005.
