Washington was 10th in the Pac-12 in red-zone offense last season and had a tough time dealing with the congestion inside the 20 again Saturday during drills.
Keith Price was intercepted by Will Shamburger when he tried to hit Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the end zone from the 10. There were also other incompletions for Price during the drill. He did hook-up with Seferian-Jenkins once for a score.
On to the quick hits from Saturday:
> Steve Sarkisian said offensive lineman Erik Kohler will rejoin the team for rehab starting Monday. He won't be practicing yet. Kohler injured his foot at the end of the summer and hasn't been in fall camp.
> After getting hit hard Friday, running back Dwayne Washington was in uniform, but sat out Saturday. Sarkisian said it was precautionary and that he expected Washington to be back Monday.
> Cornerback Marcus Peters banged knees with DiAndre Campbell late in practice. Peters was in pain but able to walk around the field to the medical tent under his own power. The trainers had checked him out prior. Sarkisian said Peters will be fine.
> Light nights for OL Colin Tanigawa, RB Deontae Cooper, RB Jesse Callier (again) and DT Lawrence Lagafuaina.
>During the gauntlet drill, WR John Ross initially blew a block before recovering and giving CB and fellow freshman Jermaine Kelly a healthy shove outside the walls of players watching the drill. It was nothing dirty. Just a hard follow-through by Ross.
> Lots of work for the 3s tonight. Troy Williams appears to be learning quickly.
> Sarkisian is often yelling at the backup QBs to pick up the pace and to throw the ball away when plays breakdown.
> Tempo was again an emphasis Saturday. The offense was moving faster than the prior day.
> We saw Jaydon Mickens getting some work in the backfield. Sarkisian said Mickens and John Ross did backfield work in the closed practice at VMAC on Thursday.
> TE Michael Hartvigson had a deep touchdown catch. He said he's excited about the up-tempo and is hoping to put his up-and-down 2012 season behind him.
> Fellow tight end Josh Perkins had a touchdown. Perkins is still looking to put on more weight after being converted from receiver. Perkins said he's about 223 and get up to 230, 235 next season.
> Kasen Williams was 1-on-1 with Greg Ducre in the corner of the end zone and pulled down a Price pass for a score.
> Damore'ea Stringfellow had a nice sideline catch followed by a score on the next snap.
> This is nothing tactical, but, for the second consecutive day, Seferian-Jenkins clobbered true freshman Connor O'Brien in a drill. This time, he knocked O'Brien's helmet off after driving him to the ground. "I love Connnor, he's a hard worker," Seferian-Jenkins said with a laugh. "A drills a drill, you do what you've got to do."
> The Huskies will head out on an Argosy cruise tomorrow to check out Puget Sound on their off day.
