Atmosphere) Great energy from the fans. Brought us energy.
Their offense wear you out?) They wore us out a little bit, they went faster than we thought. We came back, caught up to it and played our game.
Up-tempo in practice help D?) It helped us out tremendously. Lining up, getting the calls, everybody being on the same page and we executed.
Never miss a local story.
Any extra pressure?) We felt a lot of pressure. We lost the bowl game and knew we had to come back and get this win, and we did.
TD) I saw him roll out to the left, I said, ‘Man, let me get over there.’
Sense it coming?) He saw me at the last second. We made eye contact.
Tonight?) Man, so much fun. Most fun I ever had playing football.
When did you know no Austin?) Coach told us about a week and half ago. Told me to be ready. Came out to do my job.
Blowout?) It was great.
Tonight?) Awesome. We played the way we were supposed to play. I think collectively as a group, as a wideout group and as an offense.
Pressure?) No. Not at all. It was more intense, yeah. At the end of the day, it’s just another game. No added pressure or anything like that. We were all relaxed and ready to play.
How important was it to start like this?) Extremely important. We set the tone for the rest of the season and we know what we’re capable of. Any performance worse than what we just put out was not acceptable.
Why did you think the bubbles and stick throws would be effective?) Going into the game, we knew that our outside guys and our perimeter guys were better than theirs and we wanted to test that, and we showed that was the case.
Back-to-back catches, were you frustrated before?) Not really. I was getting open and I knew Keith was going to find me. It was just going to take some time. Our other guys were making plays. It’s hard to complain when your offense is moving the ball regardless if I was open or not. Keith was obviously making the right decisions. When it came my way, I just took that opportunity to make my plays.
How close to the ideal version of the up-tempo?) We were close, but I know we can be faster. For me, personally, I didn’t really get as tired as I thought I would. That just let me know we can be even faster than how we were.
First pass? What happened?) It was a pick. I said, goodness, I can’t get a break. The last pass, then the first pass of the season, but it feels good tonight.
Passing Pickett?) I knew I was close. Nobody announced it to me until about 10 minutes ago. It’s a tremendous honor being mentioned in the same breath as some of the legends here. I couldn’t be anymore proud.
What did you think after that initial pick?) I knew I should have thrown it higher. I thought I had the hole shot. I threw a bad ball. No excuse. But, man, I told myself I wasn’t going to get down. I was going to lead my team and we were going to win the ballgame. They were supportive. Nobody was really tripping on the sideline or bugging out on the sideline. It happens. The guy jumped up, made a good play, I just have to minimize those.
Kasen said you had the look in your eye from two years ago. Did you feel that good?) Yeah, I did. I feel like we got in a good rhythm. I feel like the offensive line stepped up tremendously man. I kept going back to them and saying, I’m sitting back here and I’m sitting clean. It’s good to get off to a good start. I know have a lot to correct out of this game. I’ll be back in here watching film tomorrow. One game doesn’t define us. We know we have a long way to go and it’s a long season.
