With orders from his mom to cut his hair down, Austin Seferian-Jenkins explained Wednesday that his pinkie is fine and conditioning is good while wearing a fresh-shorn look.
Seferian-Jenkins said his pinkie injury was "overplayed" and that is "was just a pinkie." He may be right, but when organizations don't talk about injuries in an up-front manner, and close practice, they leave the situation open-ended which inevitably leads to more questions than there otherwise would be.
The important thing for Washington and Seferian-Jenkins now is that he is healthy, in good condition and ready to make his season debut Saturday at Soldier Field. The game is on the Big Ten Network. You can find out what channel that is for you here.
On to the quick hits:
Never miss a local story.
> Steve Sarkisian said he is seeing up-tempo offenses more often at the high school level.
> OL Erik Kohler was out of a walking and in full pads Wednesday. He's been out all season since breaking a bone in his foot at the end of summer.
> QB Cyler Miles said he had some butterflies, naturally, when he finally hit the field in a live game Aug. 31 vs. Boise State. He threw extra passes after practice ended today. "I was very anxious for some game action, and it felt great," Miles said. "Obviously, the game was over, but it was cool and I was blessed to be out there." Miles ran an offense that huddled up in high school. He says he enjoys this approach. "I kind of like going fast tempo, adjusting on the run," Miles said. "I like working with bullets flying around me, a lot of hectic energy. I like working in that environment because I just calm myself and it's a cool way for me to play."
> Sarkisian said we will see more of WR Darrell Daniels on special teams and he will try to get WR Damore'ea Stringfellow more opportunities on offense. He also said they are trying to work in Kevin King more. John Ross will continue to receive maximum opportunities on offense and kick returns.
> Defensive lineman Evan Hudson was late earlier today, so he was also around after practice since he had to roll the length of the field as punishment.
