Welcome to Soldier Field.
> The Huskies had another big offensive night to hold off Illinois 34-24. John Timu was hurt during the game, so we'll try to find out his status postgame. Bishop Sankey with a career-high 208 yards.
> Illinois tries for another trick play, a double pass, and it's picked off by Greg Ducre. Washington will try to wind the clock out here after taking over with 3:51 to play.
Never miss a local story.
> Travis Coons hits a 32-yard field to put Washington up 34-24 with 4:44 to go.
> Illinois just scored on a 10-yard keeper by backup QB Aaron Bailey to slash Washington's lead to 31-24 with 9:10 to go in the game. The Illini used another trick play -- a double-reverse that ended up a throw from a wide receiver to wide receiver -- for a 35-yard gain. That eventually set up Bailey to run it in from 10 yards out on 4th-and-1.
> End of the third quarter. Washington leads 31-17 and has the ball at its own 17, with a 2nd-and-6 in front of it. The Huskies have 503 yards of offense after three quarters.
> Just like that, Illinois answers. Scheelhaase throws a 72-yard touchdown to Lankford. Lankford beat Greg Ducre deep. It's 31-17 Washington.
> After getting a three-and-out from Illinois, the Huskies zoomed down the field to take full control of the game. Washington leads 31-10 after a Jaydon Mickens 8-yard touchdown. The big play was a 43-yard completion to Kasen Williams. Huskies lead 31-10 with 3:32 to go in the third quarter. Illinois is wilting.
> No more Dwayne Washington and a dose of Jesse Callier as result. Callier just scored a 39-yard touchdown to put the Huskies up 24-10 with 6:14 to go. Callier has five carries for 62 yards. It was Callier's first touchdown since Oct. 15, 2011, after he missed last season because of an ACL tear.
> Without middle linebacker John Timu, who is out for the second half according to Elise Woodward of KJR, Illinois runs up the middle repeatedly and finds a lot of success. Designed QB draws went right at the middle of the Huskies' defense, which was often in it light personnel. QB Nathan Scheelhaase ran it in from two yards out to cut Washington's lead to 17-10 with 9:14 to go in the third quarter.
> Washington starts with the ball and rushes seven times for 75 yards and scores on a 1-yard run from Bishop Sankey. Sankey has 17 carries for 123 yards. The Huskies just obliterated Illinois all the way down the field. All runs. Washington leads 17-3 with 13:02 to go in the third quarter.
> We're at the half with Washington leading 10-3. The Huskies have outgained Illinois 278-93, but are up just the touchdown. Two lost fumbles and nine penalties for 84 yards are the culprits. Redshirt freshman running back Dwayne Washington has two touches and two fumbles. On the flipside, Bishop Sankey continues to crank away: 12 carries, 62 yards; two catches for 44 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown. Keith Price is 17-for-21 at the half, with two of the incompletions coming when he intentionally threw the ball away. This is an early win for defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox vs. Illinois OC Bill Cubit. Washington has survived a few busts, but, overall, the quarterback pressure from a light personnel grouping against the spread has been effective. Huskies have rushed just three or four much of the night, yet have been all over Scheelhaase.
> A Shaq Thompson sack ends the Illinois possession and bails out RB Dwayne Washington who has two carries and two fumbles.
> The Huskies are continually punishing themselves here. First, a personal foul erased a 15-yard gain for DiAndre Campbell. Then, Dwayne Washington fumbled for the second time and Illinois has recovered. Illinois has the ball at the Washington 40-yard line. Keith Price is 11-for-12, with his only incompletion a pass he intentionally threw away.
> Field goal is good. A 40-yarder. Huskies lead 7-3. Roughing the passer penalty on Josh Shirley a huge influence on the drive, as they tend to be.
> A crisp drive for the Huskies ends with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Bishop Sankey. It was a little dump-off pass that he sprinted into the end zone with. Illinois was way out of position.
> Washington forces a 41-yard field-goal attempt which is no good. Huge sack by Josh Shirley on second down pushed Illinois back 8 yards.
> The first quarter is over and has provided one surprise: No points. Illinois is on the Washington 15-yard line, however, after the Dwayne Washington fumble gave them the ball at midfield.
> Dwayne Washington's fumble gives Illinois the ball at midfield.
> Huskies with more good pressure and a little luck. An illegal formation brought back what would have been a converted third down for Illinois and Washington got a stop on the next play. John Ross fielded the punt.
> The Huskies picked up two first downs in two plays, but had to punt after Price was sacked on third down.
> Illinois converted two 3rd-and-long plays on its first drive before Washington got a sack from Cory Littleton and Josh Shirley to end the drive. Huskies will start from their own 6-yard line. They were able to pressure Illinois QB Nathan Scheelhaase. Danny Shelton picked up a personal foul that kept the drive alive and the Huskies had two busts in the secondary, one they got away with, one they did not.
> Washington wins the toss and defers.
> It's a beautiful day here in Chicago. Anthem is over, about to get started.
