As Day 4 of Washington's coaching search nears lunchtime, we have a few links and notes to pass along.
--- As first reported this morning by a few outlets, UW linebackers coach Peter Sirmon is leaving UW for USC, a source within the program confirmed to the News Tribune. Defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi are also expected to join Steve Sarkisian's staff at USC, but there is still some uncertainty there.
Reading between the lines: Sirmon came to UW with Wilcox, and it doesn't seem like he'd leave for USC unless Wilcox was planning to do the same. Running backs coach/special teams coordinator Johnny Nansen and defensive backs coach Keith Heyward have already left, meaning if Wilcox and Lupoi do ultimately end up at USC, the Huskies will be left with Marques Tuiasosopo (interim head coach/quarterbacks), Eric Kiesau (receivers), Dan Cozzetto (offensive line) and Jordan Paopao (tight ends) on their staff. And that's assuming none of them accompany Sarkisian to USC.
--- The Idaho Press-Tribune reported a statement from Boise State president Bob Kustra about the status of coach Chris Petersen, who is thought to be one of UW's primary targets.
Never miss a local story.
It reads: "We are fully committed to Coach Petersen remaining at Boise State and, as always, intend to do everything in our power to support him as Boise State's football coach."
--- Cross Gary Pinkel off the list. The Missouri coach and former UW assistant said during a radio interview with Mike and Mike this morning that he's staying put.
"I'll be quite frank: I'm staying at the University of Missouri," Pinkel said. "I, with the administration's help, will continue to build a national program in a quest for a national championship."
